As one of the most important traditional lighting source production and R&D bases in China, Foshan has a huge lighting industry cluster. The LED industry is also closely related to Foshan's pillar industries such as auto parts, lighting fixtures, and flat panel display backlights. Despite this, the semiconductor industry in Foshan still has problems in the scale of LED industrialization, the lack of upstream enterprises, and the vast majority of core technology and equipment still rely on imports.
In order to break through these development bottlenecks, the Foshan Municipal Government and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement. The two sides will carry out technical cooperation and personnel training in the fields of microelectronics, information and communication technology, nanotechnology and new materials, biotechnology, environmental protection, etc., and focus on promoting industrial development in the fields of LED and new materials.
At the same time, the Nanhai District Government has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a “Green Lighting Industry Development Strategic Cooperation Agreement†with the Semiconductor Professional Committee of the China Lighting Association and the Nanhai District Electric Light Source Lighting Industry Association, aiming at the dual strength of the government and the association. Promote the development of the local semiconductor lighting industry.
It is reported that in order to support the development of the industry, Nanhai District will arrange special funds for the development of semiconductor lighting industry of 1 billion to 2 billion yuan, and provide key support for major investment projects such as extension and chip. At the same time, it will also support a number of leading semiconductor companies and packaging lighting application companies.
