On July 13th, the Ministry of Science and Technology website published the full text of the National "Twelfth Five-Year Plan for Science and Technology Development", which explicitly included the development of "large-scale advanced pressurized water reactors and high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plants" in major national science and technology projects. It is necessary to build an advanced passive nuclear power demonstration power plant with an installed capacity of 1.4 million kilowatts.

The "planning" pointed out that the implementation of national major science and technology projects is the top priority of science and technology work. We will implement major national science and technology projects as an important carrier for deepening systemic reforms and promoting the close integration of science and technology with the economy. We will accelerate the establishment and improvement of a new nationwide system that integrates government production, research and application under the conditions of the socialist market economy, and strengthen system deployment around the industrial chain. The establishment of a strategic alliance for industrial technological innovation focused on breaking through a number of key generic technologies, developing a number of major strategic products with independent intellectual property rights and market competitiveness, and building a number of technological innovation platforms and industrialization demonstrations with high levels of technology and stimuli. Base, cultivate a batch of innovative enterprises with international competitiveness. At the same time, in conjunction with cultivating the urgent need for the development of strategic emerging industries, we will fully adjust major national science and technology projects.

The sixth item of the “National Major Science and Technology Project” in the “Planning” is the “large-scale advanced pressurized water reactor and high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plant”. The “planning” requires breakthroughs in advanced pressurized water reactors and high-temperature gas-cooled reactor technology, improvement of the standard system, and the establishment of a technology platform to improve the international competitiveness of the nuclear power industry. Relying on the AP1000 nuclear power plant construction project with an installed capacity of 1,000 megawatts, AP1000 has fully mastered the key design technologies and key equipment material manufacturing technologies for nuclear power generation and independently completed the inland site standard design. The completion of China's advanced passive nuclear power technology (CAP1400) standard system with an installed capacity of 1400 megawatts (CAP1400) has been designed and constructed as a demonstration power station. By the end of 2015, there were partial commissioning conditions for reversed power transmission and the main control room. The key technologies for high-temperature gas-cooled reactors were completed. Before and after 2013, the demonstration power stations were completed and commissioned. Strengthen the technical support of pressurized water reactors and high-temperature gas-cooled reactors and the post-processing of spent fuel in nuclear power plants to ensure the safety of nuclear power.
