Thierry Ligozat, Chief Innovation Officer of Teledyne e2v, delivered a keynote speech at the Asia Pacific Innovation Summit 2017 series, Smart & Connected Cities. His topic was "Image and Vision Sensors, Systems and Applications for Smart Cities."

The Asia-Pacific Innovation Summit and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park jointly hosted a two-day conference on September 7-8 to discuss how to make good use of technology to embrace urban transformation, explore Hong Kong's smart city blueprint, and deconstruct multiple neighboring countries. How to successfully implement intelligent and flexible planning. In the keynote address, Thierry outlined how smart cities will rely on smart imagery and visual sensor technology to collect and read visual data and aid decision making, making communities more interconnected, intelligent, and instrumented. Thierry explains his themes through five smart city applications, including smart public lighting, intelligent transportation systems, industrial safety, traffic safety and medical applications.

Thierry explains the composition of the vision system with optical components, sensors, electronic controls, image processing, and optional dedicated lighting systems. He then demonstrated the Teledyne e2v's CMOS sensor technology, which provides direct sensing beyond the visible spectrum, covering ultraviolet (UV) to near-infrared (NIR) for night vision and medical applications. This technology can be used to capture large field of view images in day or night mode while also reading small objects such as license plates. CMOS sensors also provide advanced 3D vision, enabling users to increase data depth, avoid spurious detection and improve robustness.
