EU to phase out incandescent lamps exports from Ningbo

Since the beginning of this year, Ningbo's lighting equipment exports have shown good momentum. According to statistics, in the first three quarters, a total of 42,000 batches of lamps and electric light sources for inspection and quarantine were exported, with a value of 1.05 billion US dollars. Among them, the high-end markets such as the exporting EU are particularly eye-catching, with a total of 22,000 batches worth 580 million US dollars, accounting for 51% and 55% of the total. The European Union gradually phased out the implementation of the inefficient lighting ban and provided a rare development opportunity for relevant manufacturers in Ningbo.

The EU implemented the second-phase bulb elimination measures from September 1 this year, prohibiting the circulation of 75-watt incandescent bulbs on store shelves. The regulation will phase out all inefficient incandescent and halogen bulbs in all markets and replace them with more efficient bulbs, such as compact fluorescent lamps (commonly known as energy-saving lamps). It is estimated that, despite the relatively high price of energy-saving lamp products, it can still save an average of 25 to 50 euros per household per household per year.

Ningbo is one of the three major lighting production bases in China. Its export products are mainly outdoor lighting. Labor shortages and rising costs have weakened the competitiveness of some labor-intensive enterprises to some extent. Enterprises should strengthen their awareness of environmental protection and actively implement products. Structural transformation and upgrading, the development of new products; and relying on the advantages of inspection and quarantine technical information, on the one hand, awareness of production, on the other hand, product quality, and jointly improve the Lucheng lighting industry's market competitiveness.
